What is canyoning?
Canyoning is an action-packed outdoor experience where you explore gorges, streams and waterfalls together with experienced guides. By jumping, sliding, abseiling and swimming, you experience the nature of Vorarlberg from a completely new perspective.
Around Dornbirn, narrow gorges, rocky streams and roaring waterfalls offer ideal conditions for varied canyoning tours. The combination of alpine landscapes, fresh mountain water and exciting obstacles makes canyoning in Vorarlberg an unforgettable adventure for beginners and advanced participants.
Equipment
For your canyoning adventure in Vorarlberg, we provide all the necessary certified equipment. From a washed and disinfected wetsuit to special canyoning shoes, certified harness and helmet, everything is included. All you need to bring is swimwear and a towel.
Do I need to be very athletic to go canyoning?
No. For beginner tours, a normal basic level of fitness is sufficient. You should be able to move confidently and be willing to be active in natural terrain.
Is there a weight limit or maximum BMI for canyoning?
There is no legally defined weight limit for canyoning. However, body weight, height and general physical fitness are important for safety.
In practice, many providers use a BMI below around 34 as a guideline. Wetsuits are also usually available up to a maximum size of around 130 kg. Mobility, sure-footedness and the ability to move safely in natural terrain are also important.
Because abseiling, jumping and moving in water create additional physical demands, participation is always assessed individually. If you are unsure, feel free to contact us in advance – together we will find out which tour is suitable for you.
Is canyoning suitable for children?
The most important thing is that children should enjoy the canyoning adventure and feel comfortable in the gorge. Fear or strong uncertainty are not suitable conditions – parents are usually best able to assess this.
In general, canyoning is possible for children if they meet the physical requirements. As a rule, a minimum height of around 130 cm and a minimum weight of about 30 kg apply.
For tours with children, warm weather is especially important. We therefore particularly recommend the months of June, July and August to make the experience enjoyable and safe.
Canyoning groups & private tours
You can experience canyoning either in a mixed group or together with your own private group.
Private tours are possible from just 2 people. From 5 people, we offer you an exclusive tour at the regular price.

Languages on our canyoning tours
Our tours are generally conducted in German and English. Please let us know in your enquiry if you would like a tour in English.
Other languages are possible by arrangement and depending on the availability of our guides, including Dutch and French.
What to bring for your canyoning tour
Each participant should bring the following items to the tour:
– Swimwear
– Towel
– Optional: sports shirt under the wetsuit, no cotton
– Glasses strap for glasses wearers
– Spare lenses for contact lens wearers
Photos included with your canyoning tour
During the tour, photos of your canyoning experience are usually taken. You will receive these afterwards free of charge, so you can relive and share your adventure in Vorarlberg at any time.
Meeting point for canyoning
The exact meeting point for your canyoning tour will be provided when you book. For tours in Dornbirn, we usually meet at Beckenmann 1 in Gütle, Dornbirn. Please do not drive directly to the meeting point by car. Parking is available at the public Gütle car park. A parking ticket is required, as the car park is regularly checked. From the car park, you can reach the meeting point in about three minutes on foot.
We kindly ask you to arrive on time and allow enough time to find a parking space. As we sometimes depend on a taxi, delays can significantly affect the entire schedule.
Nature & weather during canyoning
Canyoning is a true outdoor sport and takes place in the heart of nature. Tours therefore depend heavily on current weather and water conditions. Rainfall or high water levels in particular can significantly affect safety in the gorge.
For safety reasons, tours may therefore need to be adjusted, shortened or, in individual cases, cancelled at short notice if entering the gorge would be too dangerous. This decision is always made with the greatest care to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience.
Nature sets the rhythm in canyoning – and that is exactly what makes this sport so special.
Insurance for canyoning
canyoningguides.at has the legally required liability insurance and therefore meets all necessary safety and legal requirements for guided canyoning tours.
Please note, however, that any additional insurance, such as accident, rescue or leisure accident insurance, must be arranged by the participants themselves. Participation in a canyoning tour is generally at your own responsibility and subject to the safety instructions given by the guides.
In alpine terrain, it may be necessary in an emergency to call mountain rescue or use a helicopter. This can result in very high costs, which are generally not covered by statutory social insurance providers. In an emergency, these costs must be borne by the affected guest.
For this reason, we expressly recommend taking out rescue cost insurance or alpine accident insurance. This protects you from possible high financial charges in the event of rescue or recovery.
